Also referred to as combustion installations in DEC's regulations, boilers, furnaces, and generators are located in just about every facility in New York State. Boilers and furnaces generate heat for buildings whereas generators make electricity. In either case, boilers/furnaces/generators burn fossil fuels, resulting in air emissions of sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and particulates.
